Namu, Taylor’s, and Rotunda, OH MY!

23Mar10

The weather in San Francisco has been unbelievably beautiful the past couple weeks.  It’s definitely not conducive to studying (which may be quite detrimental to my 17-credit + journal + research assistantship + APALSA-filled law student life), and during spring break a week ago, I scurried around the city, looking for good places to eat.

Actually, I’ll be honest here.  I’m trying to accomplish as many of 7×7’s “100 Things to Eat in SF Before You Die” list as I can.

And over spring break, instead of catching up and prepping for the rest of the school semester, I caught up with the List instead.

Namu– Korean Tacos

The first image you see, to the upper left, is of Korean Tacos (also known as ssam, I think), from Namu’s stand in the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market on Saturdays.  For those of you looking, the farmer’s market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The tacos were delicious.  I went to the farmer’s market on my own that day, on my last weekend of spring break.  I was actually in search for argyle sweaters (for an event that occurred this past weekend– pub golfing with my friends and my brother in North Beach), but I took the chance to conveniently grab some good food and explore the farmer’s market.

Taylor’s Automatic Refresher– Cheeseburger + Sweet Potato (and Garlic) Fries

Earlier that week of spring break, my friend Alea and I trekked over to the farmer’s market again.  I swear, every time I hang out with that girl, we end up getting massive amounts of food from the List and consuming all of it.

It was pretty good.

As I’ve said in previous posts, I’m not a huge fan of burgers, but I can appreciate a good one.  Taylor’s is definitely quite good.  But I think what makes the meal especially good is the sweet potato fries.

Alea and I got garlic fries as well, but somehow, in their neon-green-ness, I was not as in love with them.

But that’s okay.  We still enjoyed it, especially because, once again, the weather was absolutely gorgeous.  I brought my books with me to study that day, but (surprise, surprise) got zero reading done.

There must be some conspiracy out there conspiring to have beautiful weather exactly when I don’t need it.

Le sigh.

Unfortunately, life always calls.  One should enjoy what one can at all times.  You never know what the next moment might bring, and so enjoying each moment (whether it has to do with food, friends, or family) is important.

At this point, however, I am enjoying . . .

. . . a burger.

After that, we worked our way back towards the Tenderloin.  Alea had to head back to SoCal later that day for an interview with Disney (side note: SO awesome– I hope she gets it!  If someone from Disney is reading this: HIRE HER.  SHE IS TEH AWESOME), but before she left, we went to get . . .

The Rotunda (Neiman Marcus)– Popovers & Strawberry Butter

This . . . was great.

Aside from a personal feeling of being horribly underdressed and inadequately poor while tramping through Neiman Marcus, we were treated well– with grace and propriety.  They must get many people who come in and order popovers to go.

Let me say– I love popovers.  They’re so fun to make and eat.  What made these popovers go above and beyond what I normally make on my own was the strawberry butter.

I don’t know how they managed to do it (dried strawberry powder of some sort mixed with butter, maybe?), but it was sweet and light (as light as butter can be).  Heh.  I want some more, now.  Yumm…

And then, next thing I know . . . Classes have started again.  Crunch time is beginning.  If I go m.i.a. again, it’s because the law school bus has run me over.  But I think I’ll still be able to fit in a few more entries before I totally resort to my cave.

In the meantime, I plan to visit this place again:

Ferry Building – Farmer’s Market.
